i truly believe every aspiring printer needs this!

Even though you can tons of info on the net,and from my blog, there is a man who pioneered screenprinting. His name is Scott Fresener and he published a book decades ago that details everything you wish to know on screenprinting. It is regarded as a printing bible in some circles, and i can highly recommend it to everyone interested in screenprinting! Here' a link to the book
http://www.amazon.com/How-Print-T-Shirts-Fun-Profit/dp/0981581609/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278173955&sr=1-1

I have even bought his color separation software, which explains the trust i have in his advice.

I have been doing printing for the past 18 years and i always encourage new technology. One thing that looked like a threat a direct to garment printing:Printing directly onto a t shirt from a printer!
And ,i can tell you,it absolutely amazing!No screen,no pozziez,no printing press,no messy colors.
But unfortunately, thatz only for the blokes ho have the money for it!
If you are interested ,her's alink to a good book on it:

But to us guys who do it screenprint way, i have decided to open a ask and answer field
on my blog!
Yes,from now on ,you will be able to ask any screenprinting questions, and get a free answer.I am doing this in the hope that all printers, newbie or veteran, can gain something from our blog.
So,let it rip,and keep printing!

how to print your own design onto t shirts!

Hi,i know there are many sites that tell you how to print a t shirt. But if you are starting out for the first time, then a lot of the info may seem like French..or latin.
But not to worry,i am here to show you the very easy way to take the image from your brain or pc,or phone and guide you into the glorious euphoria of seeing your design emblazoned on a t shirt!
I have been printing for the past 18 years and still today,it amazes me to see an amazing print on a t shirt. But enough of me,you want to know how to do THIS.
So,this is the easy part, and its not as hard as the big printing companies make it sound like.
Bear with me,and soon you will have your own design on a t shirt, printed by YOU,and you didn't even have to sell your car...
Tools we will need:
1:A squeegee.
A squeegee is basically a length of rubber supported by a metal frame ,and you will use that to print your design.
2: A silkscreen.
A silkscreen is basically a large metal frame ,but ,importantly it has a silkscreen glued onto it.The
silkscreen is important, because your design is going to be on it.
3:A table.
This might be slightly obvious, but we need a flat table to print on.
4:Ink
You need ink to print your design. You can use waterbased or plastisol ink.Seen that we are doing our first print,i would recommend getting plastisol ink, which is a ink that can be dried successfully at home!
5:Emulsion.Strange word, but what is it?Emulsion is a liquid which we will spread onto our screen
using our very own squeegee! Why do we need emulsion?Once we have coated the screen with emulsion,it will dry,and we will place our design onto it,and it is actually the catalyst for getting our design onto the metal frame..,Don't worry,I'll explain all the fine print later, for now ,lets just focus on what we need.
6:Laser or inkjet printer.
Your unique design needs to be output onto a transparent film, the darker your printer can do it,the better! Its as easy as getting your design on your pc,printing it onto transparency film from any graphics program and voila, its on there. If you are confused,do you remember the times when you were in church and they used to display the songs lyrics via the overhead projector? That is transparency film that they were using.
7:A hosepipe with water...
We are going to need that to "expose" your design onto the "screen" .
Okay, that takes take care of the list of tools we need, you still with me,you want that design of yours on a t shirt, printed by you?
Then here we go my friend:
Transfer your design to your pc.
Slide a sheet of the transparency film into your inkjet or laser printer.
Adjust your printer settings so that it accepts printing onto transparency film.
Once printed, marvel at the fact that you are almost there, you have just created what is called a "positive" in the screenprinting industry.
Get your emulsion and grab your squeegee.Dribble a few horizontal lines of the emulsion onto your screen and start COATING the screen with the squeegee. What you want to do is almost similar to painting your walls, use the squeegee to paint the whole screen with emulsion.
Once the screen has been coated, and i need to add,try to leave it with a thin coat as possible ,remove any excess emulsion from the edges ,cause we don't want any teardrops running down the screen.
Next, this coated, wet screen has to be dried.I recommend standing a home heater 30cm away from it to speed it up.Also,it has to be done in a room that has no direct sunlight or your room light shining on it.Cover your room light with a cotton garment, but ensure theres no print thats going to stick to the light!Dark light is your friend in this phase..
Once the screen is dry,you can check by rubbing your finger LIGHTLY across the upper part of the screen. It should be absolutely dry, especially the middle part.
When the screen is properly dry,you place your "positive" that is ,the design you printed from the printer nand place it on the dried screen.Remember to place the positive backwards,ie reverse on your screen,so that it will print any lettering properly! It has to read the wrong side when placed on the screen.
Take the screen and place it in direct sunlight for about 20 mins.
Then, remove the positive from the screen and quickly start rinsing the screen with water from out housepipe.
You will see the image starting to appear on the screen.
The water is the key now,a concentrated spray of water on the image will gradually start to wash away the emulsion, and begin to show the proper image.
Once the image is properly been "washed" out, allow the screen to dry.
Once its dry, grab your squeegee, apply ink,and start printing your own design!
Once its printed, pop it into your home oven, which is set at "grill" and leave your garment in there for about 45secs.
Thats the basics and its only done with bigger and more efficient equpment at large printing companies.I have been doing it this way at home and its always worked.
If you have any further questions, ask me and i'll reply.
I do plan to put videos up to make the instructions more visual. All the tools/products i used can be bought at any screenprintsupply shop.I have even launched and am selling my own t shirt brand, only i use a a more refined way of printing and curing the ink in the garment so that it's qualified for retail stores.Look forward to my videos with more practical info and you too can be smiling when you see YOUR design on somebody's t shirt.
